If somebody ask me, “what
is justice?”, I would say “putting something in the right place”. If someone
ask me, “what is environment?”, I would answer, “it is a place where people
live and growing up. It can be either growing up physically, mentally,
spiritually or intellectually”. Everybody may have their own definition in defining
anything. In fact, in judging an act of justice or (in)justice, might not as
easy as some people think. The fact that not everyone may agree of what is just
and not. Each individual on this heart has different values on what they want
to believe is right and wrong. Therefore, to fully understand the meaning of
environmental (in)justice, it is crucial to analyze the definition of the terms
critically.
what we mean by ”meaning”. According to Oxford Advanced
Learner’s Dictionary Online (OALDO), “meaning” has been defined in few
different contexts. In the context of feeling and experience, OALDO states
“meaning” as “the real importance of a feeling or experience” while in the
other context, it states as “the ideas that a writer wishes to communicate
through a book”. In redefining the meaning of “environmental (in)justice” this
paper will look at the background of the environmental problem and analyze the
conditions that make an environment just and unjust, the outcomes of both types
of environments and what can be done in creating more just environment.
